Spring Preparedness Fair 2025

Join us for our Spring Preparedness Fair!

Friday, April 18, 2025
9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Saturday, April 19, 2025
9:00 AM – 5 pm

At Sage and Plow we seek to help individuals and families take practical steps toward self reliance and long-term sustainability.  These Preparedness Fairs will focus on food storage and everyday preparedness. Attendees will also find a plethora of resources they can use to navigate unexpected challenges.

Self-reliance principles provide people with better quality of life and peace of mind now, as well as better control of future bumps or upheavals in life.

In this Fair, we will adhere to  the values found in our ‘6 F’s’. . .

Food— There will be plenty of food to sample, and purchase at this Fair!

Family—We will have all kinds of fun activities for children and would encourage families to come join us for the day! As always, Children under the age of 17 are welcome to attend classes with their parents.

Friendship— We would encourage you to share this opportunity with and bring your friends!

Farms— Several of our favorite farms will be represented here, and many of our classes will bring you back to the basics of how things were done when we lived more simply and grew our own food and preserved it on our own farms.

Freedom—We are excited to highlight the 250th anniversary of ‘The Shot Heard Round the World”!  We will have classes and activities about Paul Revere and our Founding Fathers, including our Keynote Address, which we are really excited about, where we will learn all about the battles of Concord and Lexington and why they are important to us, now!

Faith—We are hopeful that this event will build our faith in the beauty of a divinely-planned earth. That as we seek to learn about that plan, we will be lifted, edified and empowered to help our families, friends and loved ones.

Be sure to watch for our first Homeschool/Freedom Fair in July!  We will hold our second Semi-Annual Preparedness Fair in October and look forward to seeing you there, as well.

Laureen Simper and Stacie Thornton

Laureen Simper taught junior high English and reading before raising her two children. She has run a private Suzuki piano studio for 40 years.

Stacie Thornton was the financial administrator for the U.S. District Court – District of Utah, before marrying and raising five children. She primarily homeschooled all five of them.

Stacie and Laureen live in Murray. After several years of personal study on their own, they began attending classes on the constitution in the spring of 2011. J. David Gowdy, graduate of the J. Reuben Clark Law School and founder of the Washington Jefferson Madison Institute, was one of their foremost teachers. Inspired by his own experience of praying what HE could do to further the cause of liberty, Stacie and Laureen decided to do the same. They were surprised by their answer: to teach these principles to others. Since preparing this presentation in the spring of 2013, they have presented this material in many other private cottage meetings, as well as church and public settings. They have also taught an extended 6-week course of these principles in both private and public settings. Both Stacie and Laureen love studying and sharing these principles of liberty, and firmly believe that just as Heavenly Father’s children needed to make a stand for agency in their first estate, so must those of us here in this day make another stand for agency in the flesh before the Savior returns to reign over free men who choose to govern themselves by correct, eternal principles.

Principles of Liberty

Outlines the principles embedded within the Constitution – the Founders’ “success formula” – based on their thorough study & knowledge of history, past civilizations, and especially human nature. Learn the principles behind what George Washington called the “science of government” – which, when applied, yields results that can be predicted and replicated. Watching the news can leave us feeling helpless and hopeless. Studying eternal principles of agency will leave you feeling empowered, joyful and hopeful!

Michelle Roberts

Hello, I’m Michelle Roberts, one of  the owners of Roberts Ranch and Gardens, also known as Roberts Ranch Hoophouses. For over 14 years, we have specialized in building  greenhouses (hoophouses, high tunnels) and assembling DIY greenhouse kits. We are one of the few USDA/NRCS approved providers  of greenhouses and DIY kits in the West.

With over 30 years of experience as a master gardener, I’ve worked with both traditional growing techniques and more sustainable, natural methods. While I’m trained in traditional gardening methods, I transitioned to organic, sustainable practices 25 years ago. Now, my focus is on working in harmony with nature by promoting healthy soils teaming with microbes, earthworms, and beneficial insects.

Growing in a greenhouse requires some understanding that is different than growing in a typical outdoor garden. Beginners to seasoned growers will be introduced to the basics of how to successfully grow year-round in a Roberts Ranch Hoophouse.

Because there is so much to know about success as a gardener along with understanding how to grow “year round”, and the many different philosophies that abound, I want to introduce the grower to the basics of growing under cover – from soil prep and which direction to face the greenhouse to harvest.
