Aaron Gilbert is the President of BE READY Academy, LLC, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to educating and training families on disaster preparedness. With decades of experience, he has been a trusted leader in equipping individuals and communities with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively respond to any type of emergency. Aaron possesses extensive expertise in emergency communications, including HAM and Mesh radio systems, ensuring reliable connectivity during crises. Additionally, he has decades of experience in firearms and armored defense solutions, making him a respected authority in personal and community security.

What is RDAP (Rapid Disaster Assessment Program)? This program is being promoted by the State of Utah – BE READY Utah and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It is a system that is used to quickly mobilize and organize volunteers to assess post-disaster needs of the community.  Stakes and Wards can utilize this program in lieu of the Block Captain program that many Wards have been using for many years or they can modify the two programs to work together. Either way, the RDAP program can help expedite your community’s ability to collect and relay critical disaster information on homes and families in your community to Church leaders and City emergency responders.  In addition, RDAP utilizes all the citizens in a community, not just LDS members. All church denominations are encouraged to participate. Come learn how you can help set up RDAP in YOUR community!

Emergency Communications: This course provides an in-depth understanding of emergency communication systems, their operational principles, and practical applications. Participants will learn about various radio communication methods, including walkie-talkies, ham radios, and mesh radios. The course will also cover strategies for maintaining communication within families, church organizations, and community governments during emergencies and/or power outages. Additionally, participants will learn about essential accessories such as EMP protection bags, solar charging panels, and battery banks to ensure reliable communication when traditional networks fail.

Neal Bosshardt was born and raised in Redmond, Utah. He graduated from Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, and then from Brigham Young University with a degree in Business Management.  He returned to Redmond to work in the family business in 1974 when he was one of 6 employees (5 of those were family members), and worked there until he retired in 2018. He worked in every aspect of the business from mining, packaging, to marketing. He was involved with all of the products from table salt to livestock salt to de-icing salt and helped expand their markets from strictly the western states to be the entire United States, as well as Canada, New Zealand, and Japan.

His passion is teaching people the medicinal benefits of unrefined salt and natural clay.  Here is his comment as to why he teaches classes even after retiring:

“Natural Clay and Unrefined Salt kept us out of the emergency room, the doctor’s office, and drug store so many times over the years that I feel badly for parents and grandparents who don’t have these natural products or know how to use them.”

He and his wife, Marcia, have 8 children and 28 grandchildren.  When not teaching classes on natural salt and clay, he enjoys making sauerkraut, compost, working in the garden and spending time with family.

Attention “Dr. Moms” and other care givers! Natural Clay is a totally safe and effective home remedy which has been used for such external problems as acne, eczema, cuts, bruises, bee stings, spider bites, infections and burns.

It has been used internally for such things as diarrhea, constipation, colitis, diverticulitis, food poisoning, acid indigestion, heartburn, and ulcers.

Neal Bosshardt, whose family has been using clay medicinally for over 40 years, will present a fun, hands-on workshop full of ideas on how to use this amazing natural product for healing.

Mike Wood started his entrepreneurial journey in 1999 when he stumbled into a new online auction called eBay. He was quickly hooked and within a few years began teaching others how to sell online.

He has created great success for himself and others through eBay, Etsy, Amazon and websites.

He has studied the power of faith and the human mind to understand how abundance is created through thought and emotion.

Common Wild Edible & Medicinal Plants: Learn identification, edibility and medicinal uses of common plants.

Come learn what weeds you can eat. This class is an introduction to wild plants including native plants of Utah and many plants you identify as weeds. Learn how to identify them and how to use them.

Mike Wood is a self-taught wild plant expert. He has been teaching plant identification since 2010 and offers tours for hands on instruction.

Jennah Martin is the co-owner of Nice Farm Goods, a small, regenerative farm in Salem, UT.  She and her husband, Dave, run the farm together with their children.  As you might expect, they offer fresh produce.  Included in their offerings is a mighty superfood, called microgreens.  They love to provide these nutritious veggies year-round, as well as teach others how to grow their own. What a fantastic way to get fresh veggies all winter long.

Microgreens: Grow this superfood right in your own kitchen!

Microgreens are the young seedlings of edible vegetables, typically 1–3 inches tall, prized for their intense flavor and impressive nutrient density—often containing up to 40 times more vitamins and minerals than mature plants. They’re an excellent way to boost your nutrition year-round, especially during winter or emergencies, supporting heart health, brain function, and blood sugar balance. Best of all, these superfoods can be grown right in your own kitchen—all you need is a sunny window and a little curiosity to get started!

Michelle Roberts is one of  the owners of Roberts Ranch and Gardens, also known as Roberts Ranch Hoophouses. For over 14 years, they have specialized in building  greenhouses (hoophouses, high tunnels) and assembling DIY greenhouse kits. They are one of the few USDA/NRCS approved providers  of greenhouses and DIY kits in the West.

With over 30 years of experience as a master gardener, Michelle has worked with both traditional growing techniques and more sustainable, natural methods. While trained in traditional gardening methods, she transitioned to organic, sustainable practices 25 years ago. Now, her focus is on working in harmony with nature by promoting healthy soils teaming with microbes, earthworms, and beneficial insects.

Growing in a greenhouse requires some understanding that is different than growing in a typical outdoor garden. Beginners to seasoned growers will be introduced to the basics of how to successfully grow year-round in a Roberts Ranch Hoophouse.

Because there is so much to know about success as a gardener along with understanding how to grow “year round”, and the many different philosophies that abound, Michelle wants to introduce the grower to the basics of growing under cover – from soil prep and which direction to face the greenhouse to harvest.

Mett provides a solution to utilize the full hemp plant nutrients by also delivering individualized recommendations for full and broad spectrum capabilities that connect to the bodies endocannabinoid system. Additional product launches in 2025-26 will position Mett as a wellness brand, equipped to meet the needs of households around the world.

Scott resides in Utah with his wife and 5 children, who love spending time relaxing in the outdoors and traveling when they have free time.

Homeschool & the Learning Experience: Teaching your kids at home what we think should be taught at school, can be overwhelming and daunting. This class will give you ideas on ways to change your mindset in how you teach your kids the academics needed for life. It is not just about doing the learning work, it is about the way we do and think about the learning work.

  • Ten Ways and Habits to Homeschool
  • Suggestions for the Moment of Learning
  • Ten Effective Ways to Structure the Homeschool Environment
  • Five Ways Parents Can Stay Present With Homeschool
  • Developing the Mindset of a Scholar, not a Student

Julia Brown Vance is probably most famous for the number of children she has—14, all single births, all with the same father. (And yes, she knows women with even larger families!)

She has spent her life learning about nutrition, homemaking, herbal remedies, positive parenting, and listening to the still, small voice. Julia believes the body is always on your side—always trying its best to heal, cleanse, and guide you toward joy.

After years in the trenches with young children, she knows that each day is a gift. Those children have been her greatest teachers, teaching her far more than she ever learned earning a BA in Classical Literature from BYU.

Julia delights in sharing the practical wisdom that has blessed her life—especially the kind that helps families to frugally thrive with love, laughter, and more than a little bit of garlic and cayenne.

1. Sprouting: Kitchen Counter and Sink Gardening: It is a wonderful and miraculous thing to let your kitchen counter and sink become your garden. And it is easy! No soil. No green thumb necessary. With a mason jar, a piece of screen, a rubber band, seeds, and water, you can begin your own kitchen gardening experiment.

Sprouting is not a talent, an art, or a science—it is a skill that anyone can learn. Learn with gratitude. Learn with joy. Eat your sprouts with relish and delight. In the midst of any season, you can tend your kitchen counter and sink garden.

2. Everything Fermentation: Truly, there is nothing remarkable about shredded vegetables, salt, and time—but when combined in the right proportions and under the right conditions, they transform into something tangy, delicious, and deeply nourishing. Fermented foods are alive and ready to eat when you want them—with no additional work required.

This class will explore the wide variety of fermented foods you can easily make at home with minimal time and cost. Come discover the magic of fermentation!

3. Tried and True Home Remedies From a Mother of 14 Children: Mothers, by the very nature of their calling, steward the health of their children every day. Many daily problems—colds, sore throats, earaches, and tummy troubles—are best tended by a mother’s watchful eye and gentle hand.

This class will be a lively and thoughtful discussion of practical home remedies, time-tested wisdom, and thoughts that have guided me through raising 14 children. Come gather with me as we share stories, swap home remedies, and celebrate a mother’s work of nurturing her children’s health at home.

Wendy Sing has gardened in different regions, including Hawaii; Utah; and Palmyra, NY for a total of 50 years. She has been winter gardening since 2013. She enjoys eating organic vegetable fresh from the garden during all four seasons of the year!
