Dutch Oven Cooking with Stan Howell–Focus on Food Storage Series

This class will be taught by Stan Howell, a dutch-oven enthusiast. Topics he will be covering include:

He’ll also have delicious samples and recipes for his Hearty Dutch-Oven Baked Stew and Blueberry Monkey Dumplings!

Stan Howell

Stan has many years of experience teaching youth and adults outdoor cooking and survival skills. He served for over a decade as a scoutmaster and has spent countless hours preparing food by campfires, camp stoves and charcoal. His favorite method of outdoor cooking is using Dutch ovens on a camp stove, over a fire or with charcoal briquettes. He personally owns and utilizes over 15 different sizes and types of Dutch ovens and is an expert on the seasoning, care and restoration of cast iron. He is convinced there is not a better cooking method than a properly implemented Dutch oven. He currently uses them for baking bread, rolls, pies, etc. as well as for frying, roasting, slow cooking, stewing and countless other uses. He has authored a Dutch oven cookbook and has participated in and judged numerous Dutch oven cooking events. Stan is also an avid sourdough baker and has spent over 16 years perfecting his technique of sourdough bread preparation and baking. He typically bakes rustic sourdough bread every weekend in Dutch ovens, of course.
