
Artisan Sourdough Bread: A Perfect Beginner Recipe
This is a GREAT recipe to try if you’re just starting on Sourdough, and will likely resemble the recipe you use, if you’re a master! So simple and yet so powerfully delicious! This is a recipe that definitely gathers everyone into the kitchen of an evening! I have boys who make a special trip to visit, if they hear that I’ve made Artisan Sourdough bread that day!

Equipment
- Pizza Stone or Iron Skillet
Ingredients
- 1-2 Cups natural leavening (sourdough starter)
- 2 1/2 Cups water
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 4 Cups Flour Heaping Cups
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a Bosch (or by hand) for 10 minutes
- Let the dough rise until double for 6-12 hours.
- Put a wet cloth on top of the dough, or put dough in a bowl on top of a pot of hot water, to keep it from forming a crusty layer
- Once dough as doubled, use water on your hands and countertop to form dough into a round loaf.
- Place it on a sheet of parchment paper.
- Preheat oven to 500℉ with a pizza stone or cast iron skillet in the oven.
- Pick up the bread with the parchment paper and place it on the stone or skillet
- At the same time place a pan of ice in the bottom of the oven to create steam. Or spray the bread generously with water before placing it in the oven.
- Turn oven down to 425 ℉ and bake for 20 minutes
- Turn oven down to 375º F. and bake for 20-25 more minutes
