Natural Leavening Waffles

This recipe, using old discarded sourdough starter, makes THE BEST, lightest, most amazing waffles ever! Seriously an amazing transformation from old and yucky looking starter to "Mom, you didn't make enough breakfast, this morning! I could eat those all day!" And sooo good for you! Give it a try! You won't be disappointed.


Natural Leavening Waffles

These are the lightest, most delicious waffles--You'd never know they were made from old sourdough starter!

  • Waffle Iron
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 2 Tbsp sweetener (maple syrup, honey, agave)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla
  • 1 dash cinnamon
  • 2 cups natural leavening -- sourdough starter ((discard that is old works GREAT!))
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp water
  1. Mix eggs, coconut oil, sweetener, salt, vanilla and cinnamon all together

  2. Add natural leavening and mix well.

  3. Mix baking soda and water, then add to batter

  4. Stir quickly, it will raise in volume and get light and bubbly

  5. Bake on waffle iron
